Flaming Rooks The 2015 Hot Summer Chess Grand Prix Tournaments are free and open to K-12th grade players of all abilities, beginner to experienced, so bring a friend! Note: Just graduated H.S. seniors are welcome to play.

Please register in advance if possible! To enter, simply email us by the day immediately before each event. Include the player's first and last name, the name of the school they attended and the grade they were in during May 2015.
Note: If you played in any of the first three Hot Summer Chess Tourneys, you are already pre-registered for the last two in Ferndale.

NWSRS Rated Tournament Section:
These divisions are for tournament chess players with NWSRS ratings 600 and above, and those desiring rated games with tougher opposition. Players are placed in different playing groups of approximately equal playing ability based on the latest NWSRS ratings. Players will play in 8-player (usually) "Octagonal" sections. These feature three games, no elimination, with a time control of Game/25 minutes with five second delay per player. The tournaments are rated by the NW Scholastic Ratings System, so tournament rules are in effect: if you touch a piece, you must move it. If you are in the rated sections, you will be required to write down your moves, so bring a pen or pencil. (Note: Sections with unrated playes may have scorekeeping requirement waived.) Score sheets and boards/sets provided, but bring a clock if you have one. It's a no elimination tournament, each player plays three games, and thus games will be done by 9:45 pm each evening at the latest (most players will be done before 9:30).

Tournament Schedule:
Hot Pawn Check-in opens at 5:45 pm and please help with the setup, thank you! Check-in closes at 6:00 pm sharp. Don't be late! All players must check-in to ensure that they get paired to play in Round 1. In order to start the tournament on time, players who check in after 6:00pm will not be playing in Round 1.
Round 1 - 6:30 pm or asap
Round 2 - 7:30 pm or asap
Round 3 - 8:30 pm or asap
Afterwards, please help with setting the room back to its original layout.

Awards: Players scoring a perfect score (3 wins, no draws) in each octagonal group earn a medal. The top five Grand Prix scorers receive trophies at the final tourney.

Win the Grand Prix!
In the NWSRS Rated Tournament Sections, the five players who accumulate the most points overall in all four 2015 Hot Summer Chess tourneys will receive trophies. The top scorer will be declared the 2015 Hot Summer Chess Grand Prix Champion! The Grand Prix formula favors players who are improving, so you could win if you put your mind to it! The current, updated NWSRS ratings will be used in each Hot Summer Chess Grand Prix tourney.

GP 1st Tiebreak: If only two are tied, the result of a head to head game at HSC IV (if any).
GP 2nd Tiebreak: Rating at the start of HSC IV.
