Pre-registration required (by 10pm June 16)

Who: Chessplayers 12th grade and below, beginners welcome.
Where: Ferndale Public Library.
Schedule: Check in before 9:10am. Concludes around noon.
Format: Six round McMahon Double Swiss. Game/5, 5 second delay.
Cost: Free, just bring a white elephant gift to exchange.
Prizes: White elephants! For everyone!

It's a speed chess tournament! Six rounds of McMahon Double Swiss format, which means no elimination, every player gets five rounds. In each round, you'll play two games with your opponent, one with White, one with Black. "Speed chess" means everybody will use clocks, set at five minutes per side, with a five second delay, so all rounds conclude within a half hour.

"White Elephant" means the price of admission is ... a white elephant gift! So every player will get a white elephant prize! First place gets first pick, second place gets second pick, etc. McMahon pairings means there will be two divisions, so chess players K-12 of all abilities are welcome.

What's a white elephant gift? Any clean knick knack sitting in your attic, garage, kitchen or room that you no longer want, but just maybe, someone else might get a kick out of. Examples: Old mug, a toy you no longer use, hat that's now too small, pack of gum, book you've read, new spare toothbrush, stickers, funky socks, Shrek bandaids, stuffed animal, rubber pickle, bacon flavored toothpaste, fidget spinner, funky mask, Bertie Bott's Jelly Beans, shirt that no longer fits, licorice, deck of cards, pretty much anything, search the attic! Does not need to be wrapped.
